Wizard World In Texas This Weekend

The much anticipated Wizard World Texas, the annual, family-friendly pop culture extravaganza, is returning for its fourth event at the Arlington Convention Center this weekend. Over 25,000 attendees are expected over the three-day event that will explore the worlds of comics, cards, toys, anime, manga, gaming, and more, and will offer attendees the opportunity to meet some of the biggest stars in comics, film and television.

JOHNSON FOLLOWS THAT GRITTY FORM

CLEVELAND | Vince Costello's voice lowers to a whisper. Voices often lower to a whisper when the topic is Jim Brown. There was something about the way Jim Brown ran a football that defies words. Players from Brown's time will call him Superman and Hercules and recall superhuman feats of strength like some time when he dragged 10 mud-covered men over a goal line on a snowy day in Cleveland.

Then, often, those players will drop their voices and speak in the hushed tones you hear in church. Vince Costello was Jim Brown's teammate in Cleveland for nine seasons.

"The kid's just like him," Costello whispers. "I never thought I would see anyone run the ball like Jim. But this kid runs the same way, upright, proud. He runs angry, the way Jim used to run. He wants to hurt you.

Valve and SimBim link up for RACE Release.

Hullo there, everyone. It's time you had some news dropped on your virtual doorstep to round out your holiday lists with and I am, as always, happy to provide. For those of you who hadn't already heard before Valve and the Swedish development firm SimBin have linked up in order to help with the distribution of RACE - The Official WTCC Game which is due for release on November 24th. Valve will carry the game on it's Steam and also will provide Steam for use with PC copies sold in the EMEA territories to assist with updates, matchmaking, and piracy prevention. RACE - The Official WTCC Game will offer the players 60 different cars, all of which have been detailed to duplicate it's real world counterpart accurately, and 10 official tracks scattered across four continents(they did ask permission first, of course) and also has both single player and multiplayer features with the latter being able to hold up to 26 different players either real or AI.

Stargate Worlds enters production phase

Stargate Worlds creator Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has moved from pre-production into full production on the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online video game.

To celebrate, the company has released a new series of images from the game -- actual computer-generated environments, created from the game's detailed concept art with the Unreal 3 engine. Click on a thumbnail below to see the image, along with commentary from Nick Heitzman, Lead Artist at Cheyenne Mountain.

Opening the gates to Starworld Gates

And the gates of Stargate Worlds are opening a little wider with every new screenshot that Cheyenne Mountain releases. This batch of screens gives you a quick tour as to the world behind the gates. Nick Heitzman, the company's Lead Artist, was kind enough to throw in some factoids regarding the picture to MMORPG.com. And we here at QJ are more than happy to share them with you.

The image above is said to be the front of the Goa'uld Resurrection Station. The pics below give you a more detailed look of the Station's interior, as well as the backyard. Meanwhile, interesting to note is the first of the images below, which is actually a sarcophagi. The sarcophagi is where the Goa'uld revitalize dead beings.

Hmmm...so far, this world does seem interesting. Anyway, we'll keep you posted here for more details on the game.

Stargate, Seagate and Manga all mixed up

MORE GAMING BITS on a slow winter Sunday. This time, we have anime, Stargate and a US tour from Seagate. What more could you want from a single article, any more additions may make your head explode with joy.

Speaking of which, we start out with TOKYOPOP Manga Creator, a version of Planetwide Media's Comic Book Creator. If it is not stunningly obvious, this one has Japanese Manga for artwork instead of US comic book characters and themes.

The idea is pretty simple, you make your own manga one drag and drop at a time. No artwork skills are necessary, but some design aesthetic is probably a good thing to avoid the cartoon equivalent of folk songs and white boy rap. I think this one will do well, there is a target rich environment it to sell into.

That brings us to the next biggie, Stargate Worlds.

Stargate Worlds live long and prosper

If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's to never greet a rabid "Star Wars" fan with a Trekkie's "live long and prosper" hand gesture. Doing that could potentially reduce your chances of living long and prospering. Some people just really glom on to their fandoms. Among all of the fandoms there are in (and out of) this world, space operas have the strongest and most deeply-rooted fanbases.

One such sci-fi space opera is "Stargate". With this, it was only a matter of time before they thought of creating an MMORPG based on this universe. Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is spearheading the project and Stargate Worlds will base it on the "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate Atlantis" canon, with development already undergoing the final stages of pre-production. Expect to be able to play races such as Humans, Asgard, Symbiotes, Jaffa, and Unas - each having their own factions and classes.

Just fighting for a just cause

Thank you for the messages of support - hundreds of them - which have been pouring in over the past few weeks. I must admit that I am overwhelmed by your response. I was not surprised over the volume but the content, in which many of you have unselfishly discarded your personal sentiments and spoken like ordinary citizens to whom injustice has been done.

I repeat: This column and its writer cannot provide the solutions to all the ills that afflict our local councils. However, it will continue to act as a conduit for your voice, seeking accountability from our public officials.

Contrary to popular belief, this column is not on a witch-hunt nor is it pursuing any personal vendetta against any one individual, group or organisation. It serves to point out shortcomings in our system of administration and governance, and where necessary, seeks to offer constructive criticism and possible solutions to the problems facing society as a whole.
