16:44 Paper Mario gliding onto Virtual Console soon (0)

The latest edition of North American magazine, Nintendo Power, is reporting that the Nintendo 64's Paper Mario will be available on the Wii's Virtual Console service soon.

The rumour would certainly make sense, in a move that would capitalise on the recent release and mass popularity of Super Paper Mario on the Wii. Although, for PAL regions still waiting for said title, it's availability could either serve as a teasing precursor to the next-generation title or a kick in the teeth to gamers in regions that Nintendo's schedulers seemingly love to treat unfairly!

Paper Mario was released towards the end of Nintendo's last cartridge-based console in August 2000 in Japan and then in February and October in North America and Europe respectively. Developed by Intelligent Systems as the spiritual sequel to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System's Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Paper Mario marked the beginning of the popular series which also went on to spawn a GameCube sequel with its unique graphical style.

Paper Mario Headed to Wii Virtual Console

With games like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption not due out until later this summer, and others such as Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl floating in a sort of release limbo, Super Paper Mario stands as perhaps the only decent Wii release in months for many gamers...at least those who were able to pry one from the dead fingers of their fellow shoppers.

However, Super Paper Mario is actually the third entry in a once-RPG series that started way back on the Nintendo 64 (with Paper Mario) and continued on the GameCube (with Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year Door). For those of you who've never enjoyed the original, though, Nintendo is giving you another chance.

If CVG, a computer and video gaming site apparently, is to be believed, than the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Nintendo’s official magazine here in the U.S., reveals that the original Paper Mario is headed to the Wii’s Virtual Console.

Paper Mario to Hop Aboard Virtual Console

With Super Paper Mario as one of the few Wii releases that provides a full gaming experiences instead of just mini-games, Nintendo-heads have Paper Mario on the brain. Perhaps seeking to capitalize on this, Nintendo is planning to release the original N64 Paper Mario on the Wii's Virtual Console soon according to an article in the latest issue of Nintendo Power (via Go Nintendo).

Paper Mario was one of the only RPGs released for the N64 and would help to clear up the drought of RPGs on the Virtual Console. It would also make the complete Paper Mario series (including the Gamecube's Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door) playable on the Nintendo Wii. The only question is whether or not N64 Paper Mario will drop onto VC before or after the classic and much-desired SNES precursor to the Paper Mario series, Super Mario RPG.

CVG Most Wanted: Wii

What's this then? The CVG Most Wanted award - that blue spot brandished across this page - recognises those games in development which the CVG editors themselves are most looking forward to playing. The specially trained artist in our crack production laboratory (the bloke in the corner of the office next to the printer) has designed the award to recognise the truly epic and ground-breaking titles - these are the games CVG would be first in the queue for on the morning of release and ones which we'd actually spend our own hard earned dollars on. Any game which receives the CVG Most Wanted Award will have the badge proudly displayed on its game page to advise you of the titles we believe are a sign of true gaming excellence. Today we present the first ten Wii games to receive The CVG Most Wanted award: .

The Game Plan 05.11.07: The Death of Exclusives, Part 4

When I got back into gaming, I chose the Gamecube as my first new console in years. I had always been a Nintendophile, but a lot had changed since the last time I picked up a controller. Sony was the big dog and Microsoft wasn't far behind. So why did I choose that funky little lunchbox that is the Gamecube? Because that was the only place I could play Luigi's Mansion and Resident Evil 0. What that says about my gaming tastes is up for debate, but it proves that exclusives sell consoles. When I started this whole discussion a few weeks ago, I said that the consumer's decision ultimately came down to which console has the better games. Despite the ability to watch movies, despite any online capabilities, and despite whatever particular gimmick or "x-factor" a company brings to the table, I still believe its all about the games.
