MANILA, Philippines (CNN) -- Red Cross officials in Manila listed 145 people as dead and 294 as missing after Typhoon Durian slammed into the Philippines Friday, triggering massive volcanic mudslides and flooding.

In addition, 179 people were wounded and officials said the death and wounded tolls were expected to climb as Red Cross teams plow through the wreckage and assess the damage, Gwendolyn Pang, executive assistant to the Red Cross director in Manila said Saturday.

The rescue teams were first sent out Friday by boat, but Pang said many of the areas were inaccessible.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The number of chief executive officer departures reached 1,347 in November, making 2006 a record year for CEO turnover, according to a study conducted by consulting firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas.

Knight looking to match Rupp

LUBBOCK, Texas - Both coaches ran their programs like boot camps, and both simply won. With one more victory, Bob Knight can join Adolph Rupp in another way.

Knight, in his 41st season as a coach, needs one more victory to tie his Hall of Fame counterpart with 876 Division I wins, No. 2 on the NCAA career list. He'll get his first chance to tie Rupp today when Texas Tech (6-2) plays Stanford (5-1) in San Jose.

Winning isn't the only way Knight resembles Rupp.

Joe B. Hall, who succeeded Rupp at Kentucky in 1972, said the two coaches shared a style. Both were strict disciplinarians, and both prized hard work above all else.

"There was a similarity in that coach Rupp ran a Marine boot camp," said Hall, an assistant for seven years under Rupp. "Bobby calls himself The General.

Stealth toggle now toggles both stealth and stealth field. This was causing stealth generator units to \"flicker\" when they were toggled off.

ACUs no longer selectable and usable during the beginning of the teleport effect.

Transport beacons can now be seen and can't be captured or reclaimed.

Public beta for Supreme Commander

Fileplanet has come to their senses and has finally released some beta keys of the sci-fi rts Supreme Commander for their free-registration users. Get in right here, there's only a limited amount of keys available though. The download is well over 1GB and it's a multiplayer beta (although there are some skirmish-mods around). Supreme Commander should be out in the beginning of 2007. UPDATE: the beta keys are gone. For those who didn't received one, just wait till more will be made available or till the demo arrives.

Dress parade held to celebrate Thai King's birthday

A once-for-a-year dress parade was held Saturday in Bangkok to celebrate Thai King Bhumipol Adulyadej 's 79th birthday, which is Dec. 5, also the National Day of Thailand.

The Royal Guards, led by the Thai Royal Armed Forces Supreme Commander and the commanders-in-chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air forces, swore loyalty to the King, accompanied by Queen Sirikit, on an oath-taking ceremony, started at around 5:15 p.m. local time (1015 GMT).

The King inspected the thousands of troops dressed in colorful ceremonial uniforms in the one-hour-long parade, and gave a speech in which he called on the military men to devotedly carry out their born duties to safeguard national unity and stability.

The monarch would have his 79th birthday on Dec. 5, 2006, the year that also marks the 60th anniversary of the King's accession to the throne.

More Supreme Commander beta slots available

Fileplanet has once again opened up registrations for the multiplayer betatest (just click on Sign Up Now!) of the sci-fi rts Supreme Commander. "Tens of thousands of keys" are being given away to all those who have a free account on Fileplanet. This comes right after the gigantic 3.8 patch (released on Tuesday) which fixed a lot of issues, although the game still has its glitches for now. The beta is 1.2 GB in size too. Of course, you can wait till the finished version arrives (within a couple of months) and when the demo will be around at the same time.

Kashmir not safe for Kashmiri pandits

Hizb-ul-Mujahadeen Supreme Commander Syed Salaha-ud-Din is not the only one to tell Kashmiri pandits not to return to the Valley. Even topmost votaries, on their return to their homes, have veered around to this point of view.

Kashmiri pandits are a witness to a saga of political betrayal by the leadership in Srinagar and Delhi. They were promised a lot, but in return they have got only a shift from tented colonies to one room tenements and a hope of moving further into the two-room tenements, under construction under Prime Minister's package announced in November 2004.

Two years ago when Manmohan Singh declared that they would get two-room tenements in the migrant camps in Jammu region, that was an admission of the fact that the conditions were not conducive for their return to the Valley, and that they would have to stay put in migrant camps.

11/03/06 – Exclusive PC Gamer Supreme Commander Beta Blog

My exploration of the Cybran faction continued last night in the sandbox mode, which allows me to play all by myself and experiment in what is otherwise a multiplayer-only beta. Unharassed by enemies, I was free to build every unit in the Cybran arsenal and take them for a spin.

Ok, I admit, I skipped straight to the experimental units. Each side has three mega units capable of taking on entire armies. They also take a HUGE amount of time and resources to build (at the moment, a beta tester can't expect to see one in action in the first hour of play, though Gas Powered is reportedly working on finding a better balance). On the Cybran side, the weakest XU is the Soul Ripper (which I erroneously referred to as the Soul Reaver in my December issue hands-on playtest - sorry GPG!), a massive flying gunship shaped like a great big angry beetle.
