Drum Master DS To Beat Up Japan This Summer Bandai's bringing Taiko: Drum Master to the DS sometime this summer. Previously, Bandai's brought the arcade hit to the PS2 and the PSP. The DS version features the Super Mario Bros. theme song, and Mario makes an appearance. I *might* be wrong, but I think the arcade version featured the SMB theme as well. Price and exact release date to come. Brian Ashcraft Taiko Drum Master DS [Dengeki Online] Nintendo Forecasts 35M Wii Units in US by 2012 Nintendo of America Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communication George Harrison boldly predicted sales of more than 35 million Wii consoles in the United States by 2012. More than 2.5 million Wiis have been sold, putting it in second place behind the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console. Wii sales surpassed Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sales over the past four months. The PlayStation 2 still dominates overall console sales, with more than 38 million sold over seven years. The PS2 outsold the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the month of April.In a recently published interview with Bloomberg, Harrison confirmed Nintendo is increasing production at factories in China because of the high demand. "Demand is much greater than we anticipated. A year ago no one thought we would be in this position," Harrison said.
God of War II director talks sequels and PSPs In an interview with Shacknews, God of War II director Cory Barlog has explained a little bit about the back story behind the upcoming God of War: Chains of Olympus which is due out in late 2007. A lot of stuff we knew already, such as that the game is set in the ten year period preceding the events of the original game while Kratos was trying (and failing) to rid himself of his guilt at killing his wife and child. However, Barlog is also keen to point out that the game isn't just a prequel just levered in for the sake of it; events in the plot of Chains of Olympus should explain things that happen later in God of War and God of War II. I'm more interested in how the controls will work on the handheld though. Two things could prevent it from being quite as fun as the earlier console outings. According to reports out of Nintendo Power, Bizarre Creations' well-loved top down shooter franchise Geometry Wars will be seeing entries on Wii and Nintendo DS as Geometry Wars: Galaxies. Apparently, Galaxies will veer away from the quick-play arcade roots of the original Xbox and Xbox 360 games, and will be "a full-fledged game with an extensive single-player campaign" as well as multiplayer modes. Unsurprisingly, Galaxies will feature some sort of motion control and stylus-based control on Wii and DS respectively. For gamers who prefer the old-school take, the original Geometry Wars and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved will be included. Geometry Wars: Galaxies is being developed by Kuju Entertainment, the studio behind the Battalion Wars franchise on GameCube and Wii, as well as the multiplayer component of Arkane Studios' Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (PC).
