To fully experience the evil side of Middle-earth, gamers can now play as the Angmar faction in skirmish, multiplayer, and War of the Ring modes." .

Champions of the LOTRO universe

The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar as we all know, is home to various classes like the Lore-master, the Minstrel, the Captain and so forth. It is needless to say that each class has its own merits and strengths. But if you are the type of player who is all about combat, we highly suggest that you pick the Champion class.

The class was clearly developed by Turbine Inc. with Tolkien's immortal rhymes in mind: "His prowess was such that none in Gondor could stand against him in those weapon-sports in which he delighted, seeming rather a champion than a captain or king." True enough, the Champion focuses on nothing else but destroying enemies.

While the Champions have the ability to use various weapon styles at any given time, this class often find itself in trouble when facing enemies alone.

EA reveals new next-gen sequels

Electronic Arts has revealed in a conference call that it is currently working on a number of next-generation sequels to some of its biggest franchises.

The Nintendo Wii will benefit from a specifically designed Sims title, while The Sims 2: Holiday Edition will launch on PS3, and The Sims 3 is in development for release before April 2009.

Other sequels revealed by EA's chief financial officer Warren Jenson include another title based on The Lord of the Rings, a return for the SimCity franchise and a next-generation version of first-person shooter Black.

During the fiscal year 2008, EA has also scheduled a further title in the Harry Potter series, a Warhammer title from recently acquired developer Mythic and a title to coincide with the upcoming The Simpsons movie.

The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth II: Rise of the ...

The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth II: The Rise of the Witch King has the longest title in the history of video games. But EA also hopes to extend the fun you had with LOTR BFME II with this expansion pack. Instead of commanding Frodo and the gang, you will control an ancient evil army commanded by the witch king, head of the Nazgul in the movies. The story of the game is a prequel of sorts of the story of the movies and it takes place soon after Isildur defeats Sauron and then losses the One Ring. The Witch King has been commanded with establishing a new kingdom in Angmar and waging war against the kingdom of Arnor, the ancestors of Aragorn. The most notable new addition in the expansion is the new Angmar faction, which consists of lots of powerful new units. The Angmar have two different types of trolls (hill trolls are used for countering cavalry, while snow trolls are good for everything else), dire wolves, Black Numenoreans (a human infantry unit), Dark Dunedain (a human archer unit), among others.

Heroes of Annihilated Empires ( Review )

The plot and race compositions are areas where more originality certainly wouldn't have gone amiss. The fabulous introductory battle cinematic is Blizzard quality, but so strongly reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings films that you have to wonder whether HoAE wasn't originally conceived as a licensed project. A couple of episodes into the 16-mission campaign and another major influence becomes glaringly obvious. Azeroth - sorry Aquador - is a land occupied by four factions. The tree-hugging elves, invading undead, and mechanically-minded dwarves are all painfully derivative. Only the fur-wrapped Cryolytes - a tribe of mammoth-herding, yeti-befriending barbarians - feel like they haven't been scavenged from the bins behind a certain office block in Irvine, California.

Fantasy-themed games are inevitably going to share common ground but where in the Game Designer's Handbook does it say all wizards need to wear pointy hats, orcs have to live in round huts incorporating giant tusks, ents have to speak ridiculously slowly, and gnolls have to wield flails? HoAE happily laps-up all the genre clichs, then inadvertently draws attention to them with corny dialogue, a hackneyed plot, and some dreadfully unimaginative nomenclature.
