FIFA knocks Gears off top ( News )

In the run up to Christmas, Electronic Arts has taken FIFA 07 back to the top of the All Formats charts, knocking last week's number one, Gears of War, down to number three.

Shifting gears to take the number two position is Need for Speed Carbon, a franchise that has taken the coveted Christmas number one title in previous years.

EA also takes the number four position with The Sims 2: Pets, while Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 manages to climb this week, up one place to number five.

PC Game Review: The Sims 2 Pets

Electronic Arts and Maxis have done it again with this worthy Sims 2 addition full of challenges, fun and features in this popular life simulation series.

This PC version allows you to create your own pet, breed, sell (approach another Sims and ask them if they want to buy your pet – adoption is also available) and even adopt lovable animals by phone.

If you’re already familiar with The Sims 2, which you of course need to run this expansion pack, then you can dive right into the furry fun. Don’t fret new users, the learning curve is low and you can also find detailed information in the Game Tip Encyclopedia located at the book icon at the bottom of the screen.

Players can’t control their pets directly, so be sure you have a good people infrastructure before obtaining your pets.

Custer Teaches Our Desktops A New Trick

Brad Custer, IMG's resident graphics guru, has released another high quality desktop available now at the Custer's Desktops section of Inside Mac Games.

This week's desktop is inspired by Aspyr Media's The Sims 2 Pets, the latest expansion pack for the gaming hit The Sims 2, titled simply "Domestic".

Here's a short description from the man himself:The recent release of The Sims 2 Pets from Aspyr Media has flooded my inbox with requests from all the pet lovers out there. I've always enjoyed creating desktops for this series because the original game was my first venture into the world of creating desktops for the public. I was able to make this wallpaper with the help of Aspyr Media. To download the desktop, simply click on the link provided below. The download is available in several different resolutions.

The Sims 2: Open For Business Reviewed

Applelinks has posted a review of The Sims 2: Open For Business, the Mac game expansion for the ever popular life simulator, The Sims 2. As might be guessed from its title, Open For Business allows players to take up the challenge of helping their Sim create a successful business. Applelinks gave the expansion a score of 4 out of 5.

From the review:Sims who are starting their own business have two options: they can run a home-based business, or they can buy a lot and run it out of a store. This is, of course, after you buy a house, so your ability to open your own Kenny Roger's Chicken franchise may be limited at first.

But whether you open your own place or run a boutique out of your living room, the same rules apply. After acquiring your stock, you set the price in the new business menu, basically deciding how much above or below cost you'll sell the item.

The Sims 2: Pets Reviewed

IGN recently posted a review of the PC version of The Sims 2: Pets, the latest expansion for the popular people sim. The expansion gives players the chance to add pets to their Sim's family, create a unique pet from a variety of customization options, and even send their pets off to work on new pet career paths. IGN gave the game a score of 7.4 out of 10.

From the review:Pets have their own personalities and ratings, although those are a simplified version of their human counterparts. Pets can be trained not just in commands, but also in behaviors, to the point where you can train them to pee all over your living room floor and then roll around in it. Nasty, yes but extremely amusing.

Like Unleashed before it, Sims 2: Pets includes a few pets that pretty much have no function other than to look cute and up the environment scores.

PS2 Review: The Sims 2: Pets

Electronic Arts has created another addition to the Sims 2 universe, this time adding dogs and cats for you to own and care for!

If you're new to the world of The Sims, this is a world created by Will Wright - where you control your human "Sim" and build/buy objects for him/her to use/control. It's pretty much like real life, except you're playing "God". With the newest version of The Sims 2, not only can you play "God", but you can have your Sims own and care for dogs and cats!

The player can choose from almost every breed of dog or cat imaginable, and can even create hybrid breeds of their own. I found the randomization feature the most entertaining for this, creating some unique combinations for the pets and humans as well! When it comes to controlling your pet, it's not really possible in the same aspect as you can control your Sim, unfortunately.
