Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Xbox360 Live Arcade)

Alright, let's get down to it. Lately, the Xbox Live Arcade hasn't really been up to snuff when it comes to delivering quality games. For example, everyone was psyched when Street Fighter II was announced, and it turned out to be a pretty big letdown. Not too long after that, the godfather of first-person shooters came out, Doom. Though it was well received by old-school gamers, it really didn't hold up. Pac-man and Dig-Dug also hopped on board...seriously, we're supposed to be amped about getting a single game from the 1980's a week? Out comes Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 to save the day. Every fan of the series was ready for this, but with the recent past of XBLA releases, does this classic have what it takes to pull the Arcade out of the slump? For those who have never had the opportunity to play the game, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is basically a remixed version of the original MK3.

Wii and Virtual Console Go Retro

In the wake of recent reports that the Wii-mote is injuring people and smashing their living room possessions, news that Nintendo is releasing more titles for its Virtual Console (which doesn't use the motion sensor controller) is both welcome and calming.

Nintendo's Virtual Console is a big draw for older gamers. That's because the scheduled lineup of games includes hits from Nintendo's previous systems, including the NES, SNES, and N64. However, the one-time bitter competition has also been thrown in, including games from the days of Turbo Grafx 16 and even Sega Genesis. Clearly, Virtual Console is Nintendo's answer to Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade, which features some equally impressive hits from yesteryear (including Street Fighter II, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and DOOM).

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Xbox Live Arcade)

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 uppercuts into the age High-Definition. But does it stand the test of time or have both arms ripped off and get beaten to death?

Title: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Developer: Midway Type: Fighting Players 1-2 The good old days of fighting have returned, this time, with Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for Xbox Live Arcade. The game brings us all the way back to the days before button mashing actually worked and bouncing boobies took place of gruesome fatalities. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is one of the greatest fighting games to ever grace our Super N.E.S. and Sega Genesis consoles. Luckily for us next-gen folks, it's now been brought into the era of High-Def on the Xbox 360. Blood will fly and body parts will detatch. This adaptation into the Mortal Kombat series is seen as one of the best.

Kick it with latest 'Mortal Kombat

Midway Games' "Mortal Kombat: Armageddon," now available for the Sony PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox, boasts a full roster of playable characters.

"Armageddon" is the first in the series to feature every character from the 14-year-old "Mortal Kombat" universe. There are more than 50 3-D fighters in all including Scorpion, Kung Lao, Sub-Zero and Motaro.

Like any good fighting game, however, only a handful of characters are available at the start. Part of the fun is unlocking the rest, each of whom has a unique look, fighting style and weapon preference.

And if you don't want to go with a preexisting character, "Armageddon" is the first "Mortal Kombat" game with a "Kreate-a-Fighter" mode. You can select from thousands of physical features and attributes to design a custom fighter, give him or her a name, and then start a game to test their skills against others.
