Without international support, Lebanon may go under

UN Security Council Resolution 1701 was perceived as an opportunity for progress in the immediate and mid-term future. It opened the way for Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's government to demonstrate its capacity to take the steps needed to regain sovereignty over South Lebanon, consolidate national security and achieve economic recovery and repair of all the damages caused by the war. The government quickly implemented the security provisions of Resolution 1701 south of the Litani River and along the Syrian border, opening the way for an expanded deployment of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, or UNIFIL, in the South. When Hizbullah conceded the area for this deployment, many observers believed that Lebanon's domestic problems were on the way to being resolved.Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's declaration of a "divine victory" was the first indication of the collapse of the consensus among the Lebanese parties to accept Resolution 1701 and the deployment of the army in the South.

Meet the Hellgate: London party

Here are five new screens from Hellgate: London. What makes this bunch different from the rest of the screens we've hosted so far is that it focuses mainly on the characters from the game. And no, they're not necessarily in action. Instead, it basically gives you a more holistic idea of the kind of characters you'd meet in-game.

Okay, so there's a couple of deadly-looking guys here, two babes (with one of them being a Lara Croft look-alike), and a kid with one stilt-leg. That's pretty diverse, eh? And why not? For a game as diverse as this, combining elements of both RPG and FPS, your character should, at the very least, really be up to par with the demands of the adventure.

Anyway, get to know them 'cause you're sure to have a long relationship with them in the future, once this game goes out.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Update

Those of you who were having technical problems with Obsidian's RPG, Neverwinter Nights 2, might want to get hold of the latest patch which updates the game to version 1.02.809.

The update is applied automatically from within the game. However, mirrors of a manual patch are available as well. One of the folks over at Obsidian Entertainment stressed that this version is a hotfix and it address the issue with companions "wreaking some havoc on cutscenes and scripted events." Moreover, an issue with the Server Monitor Console was fixed, so I guess they're gradually making up for the slip ups some of you have been complaining about.

More info available on the official NWN forums.

Vanguard's Shadow Hounds: a mount video

Sigil Games makes some of the scariest looking MMO mounts we've ever seen. On the one hand, they're cool, but they look like they can throw you over your harness and snap your face in two with their jaws. Nice.

The latest video that Sigil and Sony have come up with for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes shows off one of the new mounts for high-level players, called the Shadow Hound. The Shadow Hound looks like an armored mass of fur, and heck, it even has horns. While you probably won't be able to use it as a weapon, riding this mount underneath a night sky will certainly look impressive.

The one thing we wanna bet on though is who would win in a game of chicken: The Shadow Hound, or the Unicorn? Our bet's still with the pretty horse because of our affection for ponies and kittens.

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth 2 - The Rise of ...

Whenever I sit down to play an expansion pack, I take a deep breath in the hope that I'm not going to encounter yet another measly franchise-milking title devoid of any notable improvements. We all know of EA's reputation when it comes to the whole milking business, and to top that off, expansions rarely bring anything new to the table, so you could say I was pretty worried.

Bedbugs prey on students in two dorms at Stanford

By the time they make it to college, often thousands of miles from home, students may have forgotten such advice from helicoptering parents.

But an outbreak of bedbugs in two Stanford University dormitories has campus officials warning student residents to watch out for the creepy crawlers and to notify authorities if they suspect an infestation.

``Everybody is talking about it,'' said senior Joe Cackler, a resident assistant in the Alondra dorm. ``Bedbugs are the keyword in pretty much every conversation.''

On the second floor of Cackler's dorm, six students in three rooms were exiled when the flat, brown, blood-sucking parasites were discovered after Thanksgiving break. The third room in the all-freshmen dorm was discovered infected Friday morning.
