Relic taps into MMOG and RPG games

Wednesday 29-Nov-2006 10:06 AM Has the Company of Heroes crew turned its back on the RTS genre? Relic, the developer responsible for critically acclaimed RTS game Company of Heroes (and Homeworld - Ed), is reportedly seeking to fill job positions connected to an RPG project and an MMOG.We say reportedly, because since the advertised job positions were spotted on the 'net by FiringSquad.com, they've been removed. Both positions were for designer roles on the projects. Relic, of course, is best known for its work in the real-time strategy genre - Dawn of War, the Homeworld games and Impossible Creatures - and additionally delivered The Outfit on Xbox 360. .

Crysis gets delayed, we all cry

The talented chaps at Croteam, the development studio behind the eagerly-anticipated Crysis, have always told us that they expect to ship the game before Windows Vista hits. The game doesn't require Direct X 10, and there were some hints that we could see a surprise hit before Christmas - or at the very least, early in the new year, before Vista launches on January 30. Well, put any such aspirations out of your mind. Crysis won't now be shipping until April 2007 at the earliest. This is, to put it mildly, gutting. The news came in EA's earnings conference call, which also revealed that Army of Two, a PS3 co-op exclusive, would also be pushed out. Gamers have been ogling at Crysis as the best-looking game currently in development and one that would fully take advantage of quad-core processors and uber-bleeding-edge hardware such as Nvidia's G80.

Half Life 2: Episode 2 Delayed

Doug Lombardi of Valve today revealed to CVG that Half Life 2: Episode 2's release has been pushed back. Originally slated to release at the end of 2006, the release date recently slipped to Q1 2007. With this second delay the "target" date is now set for Summer 2007, though there's certainly no guarantee that Half Life 2: Episode 2 won't be delayed again.

While specific reasons weren't given for the delay, additional time was likely needed to smooth out the kinks in the composite package. Half Life 2: Episode 2 will include Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Half Life 2: Episode 1 is set to release on Xbox 360 and PS3 early in 2007.

PS2 Review: The Sims 2: Pets

Electronic Arts has created another addition to the Sims 2 universe, this time adding dogs and cats for you to own and care for!

If you're new to the world of The Sims, this is a world created by Will Wright - where you control your human "Sim" and build/buy objects for him/her to use/control. It's pretty much like real life, except you're playing "God". With the newest version of The Sims 2, not only can you play "God", but you can have your Sims own and care for dogs and cats!

The player can choose from almost every breed of dog or cat imaginable, and can even create hybrid breeds of their own. I found the randomization feature the most entertaining for this, creating some unique combinations for the pets and humans as well! When it comes to controlling your pet, it's not really possible in the same aspect as you can control your Sim, unfortunately.
