'Warhammer: Mark of Chaos' Available As Digital Download

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos is about WAR, focusing on the armies and battles while de-emphasizing the tedious aspects of base and resource management. Epic sense of both scale and detail where big demons and huge beautifully rendered battalions clash with thousands of characters battling on screens in intricate detail. A variety of buildable features and randomized, destructible terrains such as forests, swamps, plains, and tundra change the shape of the battlefield and add a layer of strategy that provides infinite replayability. As armies move from battle to battle in an epic war, Heroes and Champions learn new tactics, unlock new abilities, command larger units, even challenge other Champions in a duel to the death. Warhammer: Mark of Chaos takes customization to a new level by allowing for body part swaps, weapon and armor enhancements, and more powerful controls to paint units and customize banners.

VE Votes 2006: Best First-Person-Shooter?

This week's VE poll asks, What was the best first-person-shooter from 2006? Vote on your right! And no, Gears of War isn't a FPS, which is why it isn't included (cough). I didn't put HL2: Episode 1 in there either, as its an expansion pack, but did include Sin Episodes because it is a stand-alone game.

Here are the results from last week's strategy poll: VE Votes 2006: Best Strategy Game?
Company of Heroes [1116 votes]
Medieval 2: Total War [261 votes]
Battle for Middle Earth II [157 votes]
Star Wars: Empire at War [128 votes]
Heroes of Might and Magic V [120 votes]
Darwinia [101 votes]
DEFCON [94 votes]
Rise of Legends [69 votes]
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos [96 votes]

PC releases for week ending 11/25

Great news for all Oblivion fanatics, included in the list of this week's PC releases is your much-awaited Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PS3, Xbox360, PC) Knights of the Nine Expansion Pack!

As we've mentioned in an earlier article, the Knights of the Nine content for the 360 will only be downloadable while the PC version will have a retail pack. Well, now that pack has hit European as well as US shelves!

Europeans can also rejoice over the fact that Phantasy Star Universe (Xbox360, PC) and Warhammer: Mark of Chaos are now also up for grabs. For some reason, our source didn't have the PC releases this week for Japan so we can only give you the ones for US and Europe. (So nope, the exclusion of Japanese releases is not intentional. We love our readers equally, regardless of region and race.

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos Review

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos has all the makings of a great game, but bugs, sluggish execution, and some infuriating mission setups keep it from achieving the must-play status that games like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War accomplished.

There are two campaigns you can play in Mark of Chaos: the Human campaign, in which you play as a hero named Stefan von Kessel and the Chaos campaign, in which you play Thorgar the Blooded One. Each follows the plot of the evil Northlanders, who were defeated in the previous game. In Mark of Chaos, if you're the human, your task is to stop the Northlanders from uniting and conquering again. If you're Thorgar, you try to unite the Northlanders and conquer the Southlander humans in the name of the Chaos gods.

There's a lot to this game.

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - PC

Since my visit to Warhammer World in Nottingham, Games Workshops regular HQ, Ive been waiting with great patience for the latest game in the Warhammer series, Warhammer: Mark of Chaos to land on my desk. My initial preview of the game, where I had the chance to take a sneaky peak around the lands of the Empire, promised plenty from Namco Bandais latest real-time strategy title; finally Ive got my hands on the full version. Before we continue, I wont be comparing Warhammer: Mark of Chaos to any of the previous titles, simply due to the fact that I havent played them; so its with a fresh approach and a certain naivety that I immersed myself in the fantasy land of warring armies, mighty heroes and the hordes of Chaos. Taking part in huge-scale battles across detailed landscapes and carrying out puzzle based assignments and objective based missions, I placed myself on the side of the Empire in an attempt to bring peace at this turbulent time in Warhammer lore.

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos ( Review )

Before I talk more about Mark of Chaos itself, a brief diversion. It's generally pretty bad form to talk about stuff in the box when, y'know, there's a game to be discussed and everything, but give me just this one. In the collector's edition of Warhammer: Mark of Chaos, as well as the usual soundtrack, hilariously po-faced novel and artbook tchotchke, there's a cardboard Chaos banner and a fragile plastic stand to put on your desk, suspend menacingly over a baby's cot or whatever. There are also three sheets of blank white cardboard on which to, apparently, paint your own banner. Blank. Cardboard.

They've even put two holes in the top themselves so you can hang your artwork from the plastic stand. This is, of course, a godsend, if a tragic childhood accident means that the tendon in your hand necessary to operate a holepunch no longer works
