World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Release Date Confirmed

Finally, Blizzard Entertainment says that World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade will be in stores on January 16th in North America and Europe. The expansion will be available in a similar time frame in Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore as well, and availability for mainland China and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau will be announced in the near future. In addition, Blizzard today announced that the subscriber base for World of Warcraft has reached a new milestone, with 7.5 million players worldwide.

In World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, players will be able to advance their characters up to level 70, unlocking a world of power and possibilities along the way. Additional features coming in The Burning Crusade include two new playable races (the Blood Elves and the Draenei), flying mounts, new talents and abilities for all character classes, the new jewelcrafting profession, new magical weapons and armor, and many enhancements to PvP action.

I can see the public relations side to it. Some comments I laughed at for the sheer I'm-reading-this-from-a-script-and-you-can-tell-I-didn't-write-it aspect of it. If he thinks that oceanic players believe him when he says they have a great network, he's got another thing coming to him (especially since a fair portion of the atomic wow playerbase play on blackrock, which is somewhat akin to the 7th level of hell).

But some nice info, If any of you atomic staff members are reading this, you should have asked more stuff about the grid computing aspects of wow I reckon. That would have really thrown him for a loop :) More ATOMIC questions and less marketing spin imo.

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Release Date Announced

Blizzard Entertainment announced today that World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the expansion to the globally popular World of Warcraft MMORPG with 7.5 million subscribers worldwide, is to be released on January 16, 2007 in North America and Europe. The expansion will launch in Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore around the same time. Availability for mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau has yet to be announced.

"While World of Warcraft has continued to grow rapidly along with its player population, The Burning Crusade will represent our largest addition of new game content and new features to date," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard. "With this expansion, we're looking forward to offering the same level of quality that players have experienced in World of Warcraft so far, and we'll continue balancing and play-testing up until launch to ensure The Burning Crusade achieves that goal."

Features included in the expansion are: Advancement up to level 70 (the previous limit was 60).


Burning Crusade beta testers get contest

Beta testers get all the luck. Just for playing the game they love and enduring the pain of crashes, bugs, and other problems. Blizzard's offering a contest to all of the Burning Crusade closed beta testers, and five lucky folks will get free WoW for a year, among other things.

The expansion to the world's leading subscription-based multiplayer online role-playing game will allow players to advance characters up to level 70, add two new playable races -- the Blood Elves and the Draenei -- as well as flying mounts and new talents & abilities to all character classes. The update includes a new jewelcrafting profession, new magical weapons and armor, and numerous player-versus-player enhancements. Lead veteran players are taken through the fabled Dark Portal and into Outland, the former homeworld of the Orcs and site of a series of cataclysmic events that helped shape the history of the Warcraft universe.
