Mac Civilization IV: Warlords Ships

Aspyr Media has successfully shipped the expansion for Civilization IV, dubbed Warlords for Mac OS X. This add-on brings many new features to fans of the game, including new cilizations, wonders, and the "warlord" character type:* Warlords A new great person type called the Warlord will be an indispensable asset to any player bent on world domination.
* Vassal States You no longer need to obliterate an enemy to defeat them. Conquer your enemies and subjugate them to your rule.
* Game Scenarios The expansion will deliver eight new historical scenarios spanning Alexander's conquests through Genghis Khans dominance of Asia, in addition to other scenarios that challenge the way that you currently play the game.
* New Civilizations Six new civilizations will be included, giving you even more options when planning your domination of the world.

Paradox Sets Release Date For Europa Universalis III

New York, NY (AHN) - Computer game maker Paradox Interactive has announced the release date for its "biggest production to date," Europa Universalis III (EUIII).

The game, which enjoys a strong following of hardcore historians/gamers will hit shelves January 23, 2007 in North America and January 26 in Europe.

According to the company, the title has been rated E and 12+. A Collectors Edition will be available in limited numbers on key markets. The standard version will sell for $39.99, with a Collectors Edition priced at $49.99. The Collector's Edition will include a complete strategy guide among "other exclusive assets."

EUIII has undergone many changes from its sequel. The developers have created a 3D map of the world, and introduced many gameplay elements and changes fans had called for online.

GalCiv 2: Dark Avatar Beta Opening Soon

The public beta test for Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar, the first expansion for the space-based strategy game, will begin on November 16. It will only be open to those who pre-order the expansion via the publisher's TotalGaming.net service, however.

Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar, which is scheduled to release in February, can be pre-ordered for $24.95 or three TGN tokens. As with all games on TotalGaming.net, it will ship without copy protection.

Achievements praised

His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of UAE National Day, affirmed that the UAE leaders and people had pledged to forge ahead for more achievements and gains.

Shaikh Sultan commended the constructive steps taken by His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Al Nahyan to entrench representative democracy in a new form based on free elections to empower the FNC to play its role adequately in national development.

Half Life 2: Episode 2 Delayed

Doug Lombardi of Valve today revealed to CVG that Half Life 2: Episode 2's release has been pushed back. Originally slated to release at the end of 2006, the release date recently slipped to Q1 2007. With this second delay the "target" date is now set for Summer 2007, though there's certainly no guarantee that Half Life 2: Episode 2 won't be delayed again.

While specific reasons weren't given for the delay, additional time was likely needed to smooth out the kinks in the composite package. Half Life 2: Episode 2 will include Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Half Life 2: Episode 1 is set to release on Xbox 360 and PS3 early in 2007.

Stargate Worlds enters production phase

Stargate Worlds creator Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has moved from pre-production into full production on the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online video game.

To celebrate, the company has released a new series of images from the game -- actual computer-generated environments, created from the game's detailed concept art with the Unreal 3 engine. Shanda Profit Drops, Revenue Sinks

Shanda's (SNDA) unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2006 show total net revenues decreased 12.6% year-over-year to US$ 55.2 million.

The company's online game revenues also decreased 6.6% year-over-year to US$ 51.7 million.

In the third quarter of 2006, Shanda reported net revenues of US$55.2 million, representing a 7.7% increase compared to the second quarter of 2006 and a 12.6% decrease from the third quarter of 2005.

Online game revenues in the third quarter of 2006 increased 9.4% quarter- over-quarter and declined 6.6% year-over-year to US$51.7 million. Total peak concurrent users for all Shanda games in commercial service in the third quarter of 2006 decreased 8.0% to 2.06 million from 2.24 million in the second quarter of 2006.
