Battlefield 2142 1.05 News

November 04, 2006 - EA posted a brief note reaffirming its commitment to support Battlefield 2142. The v1.05 patch should be out sometime next month: We would like to explain here how committed we are to increasing everyone's experience with Battlefield, especially regarding the updates for Battlefield 2142. We acknowledge that the patching process could have been smoother for Battlefield 2; we have listened to the feedback and learned from it.

To accomplish this goal Dice has recently formed a Live Team with the purpose of making sure your playing experience on the Battlefield is as solid as possible after the game is launched. Among other things, the team works closely with the community and handles the patching process, together with the Ranked Server Providers.

Your Dice Live Team is located at the Dice Studio in Stockholm and is made up of key people from the game project teams.

A Pint of Milk, 6 Eggs and GTA San Andreas please

Any of you that read my articles regularly will know full well that I have a soft spot for independent gaming stores. I love them. In my former life (you can read that as "when I was still with my previous girlfriend") me and Mrs. Ben would on occasion go out shopping, as girls seem to like doing. I have mates who are coupled up that will happily spend hours trawling round clothes and shoe shops, burning their cash in the very contemporary pursuit of branded clothes and YSL baseball caps. I, however, would much prefer to spend the afternoon loitering in a decent indie gaming store. I love browsing the import and retro sections for oddities, chatting to the staff and gently guiding bewildered parents in the direction of an at least semi-commendable purchase for their kid's birthday (no, I'd personally stay clear of Need for Speed Underground.

One day, the Birds of Prey

BEAVER CREEK - Skier Thomas Walsh wants to become a triathlon champion and president. But first, the 11-year-old hopes to best the World Cup and Olympics.

How does he plan to achieve these goals?

Hard work, he says.

"It's no easy game," Walsh said. "It's no daily TV show sitting on the couch. You just have to work as hard as you can."

The Avon resident and sixth grade Vail Mountain student trains in the off season for triathlons, one of which he won last year, and skis in the winter. In the end, he said, confidence is key.

"You have to be on top of the game," he said. "You have a mental and physical challenge as well. You have to always know you can do it."

'Starts in the valley'
As racers descend upon the Birds of Prey course at Beaver Creek, several local youngsters aspire to one day race the World Cup circuit - a daunting task by some accounts.

Disabled heroes return to Breckenridge this week

BRECKENRIDGE - Kirk Bauer, executive director of Disabled Sports USA, believes that a picture is not only worth a thousand words, it is also capable of changing paradigms. Especially if it is an image of a disabled athlete sailing deftly down the mountain on a pristine day.

"It breaks the concept that a disability means that you are not able," Bauer said.

From today until Dec. 10, DS/USA will host the 19th annual Hartford Ski Spectacular at Breckenridge. DS/USA is a national nonprofit that was founded in 1967 to rehabilitate injured Vietnam veterans, and it currently offers programs to anyone with a permanent disability. During the week newcomers to snow sports will learn proper techniques, and intermediate and advanced participants will attend sessions on competing and will compete in several races.
